Patriotic party family expresses concern over rising energy prices and declining competitiveness
The leaders of the Patriots’ member parties expressed their concern in a statement on Wednesday that, while energy prices in Europe are rising and European competitiveness is declining, the European Commission is coming up with proposals that will further exacerbate the problems in this area.
“The European Commission – contrary to the provisions of the Budapest Declaration on the New European Competitiveness Deal – has developed proposals within the framework of the REPowerEU project that will further increase energy prices, endanger energy security and harm Europe’s competitiveness,”
the statement published on X said.
The Patriots’ leaders consider the situation in the Middle East to be worrying, which could pose a serious threat to Europe and have an adverse impact on energy prices and security of supply. For this reason, they call on the European Commission to prepare an impact assessment in this area and to take steps to reduce energy prices.
In a statement issued ahead of the European Council summit on Thursday and Friday, they reiterated their view that Ukraine’s accession to the EU would raise serious concerns. “It would have incalculable consequences, in particular for agriculture, food security, the labour market and the security of the Member States,” they wrote.
The Patriots’ member parties believe that a complete overhaul of the international and European immigration system and case law is needed. In this regard, they support the joint Danish and Italian initiative to rethink international court practice and return competences in the field of immigration to the Member States.
The group believes that the defence capabilities and industry of the Member States should be strengthened, but this should be based on national competences. “The European Commission cannot use this as a pretext to centralise power and undermine the sovereignty of the Member States,” they said.
