The proportion of fake honey on the shelves of Hungarian stores is worrying
A new inspection has revealed that the majority of shop honeys do not meet quality requirements. However, the producers’ honeys passed the test well – InfoStart points out.

Hungary would honey superpower
The National Hungarian Beekeeping Association examined 116 honeys, and 47 samples from retail chains were submitted to the laboratories. Based on the results published on the organization’s website, the producer’s honey meets the requirements almost without exception. However, the quality of most of the products available in stores is objectionable. Moreover, the origin of the honeys is also questionable. Of the 47 store honeys, 28 are offered as acacia honey, but the majority of them turned out to have no trace of acacia in them. Instead, they contain pollen from other flowers, mainly phacelia.
Earlier, Péter Bross, president of the National Hungarian Bee Association, spoke about the problem of honey counterfeiting on InfoRádio. He reassured everyone that honey is adulterated with substances that are not harmful to health, mostly sugar. Although it is not dangerous, it is still harmful that someone gets much cheaper sugar for their money instead of honey.
As he said, counterfeiters used to use isoglucose syrup obtained from corn starch, but laboratory techniques have improved and are now able to show that the sugar comes from monocotyledonous or dicotyledonous plants. That’s why fraudsters are starting to switch to potato sugar.
