Unusual VAT rate testing by NAV

The National Tax and Customs Administration (NAV) is using an unusual method to test whether domestic restaurants are applying the VAT rate correctly: recently NAV inspectors have been ordering dessert to take away after eating their dinner on the premises. When the dessert wasn’t charged at 27% VAT, the given restaurant was fined.
