Tax evading vegetable and fruit traders were caught by the tax inspectors
Traders selling vegetables and fruit imported from Greece without paying the sales tax were caught by the tax inspectors at the wholesale market in Szeged – the press representative of the Southern Great Plain Criminal Directorate of the National Tax and Customs Administration (NAV) informed MTI on Tuesday.
Dávid Nikolett stated that, according to the well-founded suspicion, the two men tried to avoid paying taxes using a similar method. They ordered vegetables and fruits mainly from Greece, and then sold the goods on paper to profit-making companies under their control. Thus, they created the appearance that the products were not obtained from an EU member state, but from other domestic companies. The aim of creating the invoicing chain was to avoid the payment of general sales tax charged on the domestic sale of products purchased from the Union, the press officer wrote.
According to the announcement, they also changed strategy in the meantime; some of the goods were sold without an invoice, in order to hide the VAT arising from their sales. All of these made it possible to sell the goods at a more favorable market price, thereby
