Fat bread is slowly becoming a real luxury: the price of both fat and bread has risen by 100 percent
Not only did the price of fat and bread increase drastically in one year, consumer prices were 24.5 percent higher in Hungary by December 2022 than in the same period of 2021. The fact that everything rose in price by a quarter on average is shocking in itself, but this is only the tip of the iceberg, since the average increase in food prices was already 44.8 percent.
According to the aggregated data, pork fat became the most expensive in the month of December 2022, as the average price of products with 400-500 gram packages rose by 115.3 percent. So while they cost HUF 483 on average in December 2021, they cost HUF 1,040 last month. But the 100 kg briquettes and the cubic meter of piped gas have also become more expensive, the former by 113 and the latter by 109.9 percent, and bread is also high on the list: in other words, fatty bread is slowly becoming a real luxury item, the Pénzcentrum points out.
