Vodka and gin: higher sales in terms of both value and volume
Total annual retail sales in the nine spirits categories measured by Nielsen reached the value of HUF 66 billion in the August 2010-September 2011 period. Only vodka and gin sales managed to improve both value and volume sales.
Stores realised HUF 12 billion from vodka sales (up 4 percent) and volume sales grew by 2 percent. Gin is the smallest in the nine spirits categories with an annual market of HUF 0.5 billion. As regards value sales, there was a 28-percent improvement and volume sales were up 31. The pálinka market was around HUF 14 billion and bitter spirits were above HUF 13 billion. Retail sales of brandy, whisky, liqueur and rum reduced 4-5 percent in value. Vermouth: the annual market was around HUF 2.5 billion.
