The World’s Best Gastronomic Cities in 2025 – New Orleans at the Top
Time Out magazine has compiled its 2025 ranking of the world’s best gastronomic cities with the participation of thousands of locals. The evaluation took into account 18 different criteria, including the quality of the food, its affordability, and how family-friendly or innovative the city’s food culture is – writes Pénzcentrum.
When compiling the final list, only one city per country was allowed to be included in order to get the broadest and most representative global picture possible. New Orleans topped the ranking, followed by Bangkok and Medellín.
New Orleans – the gastronomic capital of the world
New Orleans, located in Louisiana, took first place with positive feedback from 93% of locals and outstanding scores from the expert jury. The city’s gastronomy is made special by a unique mix of American, French, Spanish, Vietnamese and African influences. Creole and Cajun cuisine, fresh seafood and world-famous beignets all contributed to New Orleans’ success. The wide range of restaurants, from Michelin-starred establishments to local eateries, also played a role in the ranking, offering outstanding quality at all price points.
Bangkok – the world’s street food paradise
In second place, Bangkok is world-renowned for its bustling street food markets, where 86% of locals say the quality of the restaurants is excellent. The Thai capital’s gastronomy is of a high standard at all price points, from a quick street pad Thai to modern Thai dishes at a luxury restaurant. 47% of the expert jury named the city one of the best gastronomic destinations in the world, striking the perfect balance between authentic flavors and modern culinary innovation.
