The producer price of slaughter heifers increased the most
According to the AKI’s slaughter statistics data, cattle slaughter in January-August 2024, expressed in live weight, was 9.5 percent below the amount in January-August 2023. Cows, which account for two-thirds of all slaughters, were slaughtered by about 9.9 percent, heifers by 21.8 percent less, while bulls increased by 1.1 percent at the same time.
Based on KSH data, Hungary’s live cattle exports increased by 5.1 percent (40.1 thousand tons), while their value decreased by 1.5 percent in January-July 2024 compared to the same period in 2023. The main partners were Kosovo, Croatia, Austria, Albania, Poland and Italy. Hungary’s live cattle imports exceeded the previous year by 10.8 percent (14.5 thousand tons), and their value increased by 13.4 percent. More than half of the live cattle came from Denmark, Germany, the Netherlands and Slovakia. The volume of beef exports decreased by 21.6 percent (4.4 thousand tons), and the value by 18.8 percent. The volume of beef imports increased by 12 percent (8.2 thousand tons) and the value by 10 percent in the observed period. According to the data of AKI PÁIR, the producer price of the young bull was HUF 986/kilogram of carcass warm weight 1–39 2024. week, increased by 23 percent compared to a year earlier. The price of the slaughter heifer was 28 percent higher, and the price of the slaughter cow was 16 percent higher in the examined period.
