The producer price of slaughter pigs is 6 percent higher than a year earlier
In the European Union, the slaughterhouse entrance price for pigs belonging to the “E” commercial class was 2.27 euros/kilogram cold carcass weight in September 2023, an increase of 8 percent in one year.
The pig prices of companies and slaughterhouses that are decisive from the point of view of the EU pig market rose by an average of 6 percent in the 41st week of 2023 compared to the average price of the same week of the previous year. According to AKI PÁIR data, the producer price of domestically produced slaughter pigs, excluding VAT and transport costs, was 892 forints/kilogram of carcass hot weight in September 2023, which represented a 6 percent increase compared to the average price a year earlier. The processing sales price of cut pork (loin, ribs, thigh) was 12 percent higher in the same comparison. According to KSH data, the consumer price of short loin increased by 12 percent and pork leg by 20 percent at the same time.
