The producer price of broiler chicken fell by nearly 20 percent
According to data from the European Commission, poultry meat exports from the Union (EU27) decreased by 3 percent to 2 million tons in 2023 compared to 2022. Exports of EU poultry meat to Ukraine (-20 percent), Congo (-19 percent), Saudi Arabia (-11 percent) and Ghana (-5 percent) fell, while exports to the United Kingdom did not change significantly.
The community’s poultry meat imports rose by 5 percent to 894,000 tons at the same time. More than half of the imports came from Brazil and Ukraine.
Based on data from the KSH, Hungary’s poultry meat exports increased by 10 percent to 18,000 tons in the first month of 2024 compared to January 2023
Within this, the export of chicken increased by 2 percent to 12,000 tons, and that of turkey increased by 39 percent to 2,000 tons. Hungary’s poultry meat imports decreased by 29 percent to 6,000 tons in the observed period. Within this, the delivery of chicken meat fell by 33 percent to 4,000 tons, while that of turkey meat increased by 52 percent to 426 tons. According to AKI PÁIR data, the live weight producer price of slaughter chickens in Hungary decreased by 19.9 percent to HUF 412.5/kg, and that of slaughter turkeys by 13.9 percent to HUF 597.8/kg in the first thirteen weeks of 2024 compared to the same period of the previous year. The processing selling price of chicken breast fillet is HUF 1,704.9/kilogram (-16.4 percent), bone-in chicken breast is HUF 1,053.7/kilogram (-24.1 percent), and the price of chicken breast (total) is HUF 1,670.1/kilogram (- 17.0 percent) in the observed period.
