The price of horseradish rose by 4 percent and that of beets by 27 percent
According to KSH data, 8.8-11.1 thousand tons of horseradish were produced in Hungary in recent years on 1100-1400 hectares, the average yield was between 6.7-8.9 thousand tons/hectare. According to KSH data, the quantity of horseradish exports increased by 10 percent to 9.93 thousand tons and the value by 8 percent to HUF 5.41 billion in 2023 compared to the previous year. More than 70 percent of exports were directed to Germany and Poland. The import is not significant on an annual basis, it was 106.7 tons in the examined period.

On the Budapest Wholesale Market in 2023, the domestic producer price of fresh horseradish was 4 percent higher (HUF 1,163/kilogram) than the year before, 2024 1–9. was available at a price of HUF 1,232/kilogram per week.

The foreign trade balance of beets (with radishes and other similar roots) is negative. Imports (primarily from Germany, Italy and Austria) increased by 10 percent to 8.66 thousand tons, exports (mainly to Romania) increased by 16 percent to 1.19 thousand tons in 2023 compared to the previous year. The price of domestic beets on the Budapest Wholesale Market rose by 27 percent to HUF 303/kilogram in 2023 compared to the previous year. In the first nine weeks of this year, domestic beet prices were 5 percent lower (HUF 245/kilogram) than in the same period of 2023.
