Egg exports have increased in the EU and in Hungary as well
Based on data from the European Commission, EU (EU27) egg and egg product imports increased by 12.5 percent to 26,000 tons in the first three months of 2024 compared to the same period of the previous year. 78 percent of imports came from Ukraine and the United Kingdom.
The community’s export of eggs and egg products increased by 22 percent to 91,000 tons in January-March 2024 compared to the same period of the previous year. The EU’s largest target countries: the United Kingdom (37 percent share of exports), Japan (19 percent) and Switzerland (13 percent) together bought 62,000 tons of eggs and egg products from the community in the first three months of this year. Exports to the United Kingdom increased by 1 percent, to Switzerland by 9 percent, and to Japan by 44 percent in the observed period.
Based on KSH data, Hungary bought 10,000 tons of shell eggs (-7 percent) from the international market in the first four months of 2024
Within this, it delivered 12 percent more, almost 7 thousand tons of fresh eggs. The export of shell eggs rose by 29 percent to 5.5 thousand tons, within which the export of fresh eggs was 403 tons (+5 percent) between January and April 2024 compared to the same period of the previous year. According to data from the European Commission, the packing point price of table eggs in the EU was 217 euros/100 kilograms in the first twenty-seven weeks of 2024, which decreased by 13 percent compared to the same period of the previous year. According to the data of the AKI PÁIR, the packing point price of table eggs (M+L) from cage keeping in Hungary was HUF 50.53/piece in the first twenty-seven weeks of 2024, which was 19.3 percent below the average price of the same period in 2023.
