The price of eggs at the packing point is still lower than last year
Based on data from the KSH, in 2023, Hungary bought 35.5 thousand tons of shell eggs from the international market, almost the same amount as the previous year, within which it imported 22 percent more (20.8 thousand tons) of fresh eggs.
The export of shell eggs decreased by 10 percent to 12,000 tons, within which the export of fresh eggs decreased by 11 percent to 1,500 tons in the same comparison. According to the data of AKI PÁIR, the packing point price of caged table eggs (M+L) in Hungary was HUF 54.40/piece in the first eleven weeks of 2024, which was 17.6 percent lower than the average price of the same period in 2023. The packing point price of boxed eggs in size class M decreased by 17.4 percent to HUF 57.07/piece, and that of boxed eggs in size class L decreased by 15.5 percent to HUF 68.49/piece. The packing point price of M-tray eggs decreased by 21.3 percent to HUF 48.95/piece, and that of L-tray eggs decreased by 16.6 percent to HUF 53.78/piece. The packing point price of table eggs (M+L) from deep-laying was HUF 63.12/piece in the first eleven weeks of 2024, which is 15.2 percent lower than the average price for the same period of 2023.
