A typical Hungarian rarely goes to restaurants

Most Hungarian guests taking account into the physiognomy of the kitchen and the acceptable
prices of the meals when choosing a restaurant. Hygiene and accessibility are also important aspects.

The same order is true in most countries of the world states Nielsen Market Research Company’s survey made in 52 countries, including Hungary. However, while the 83 percent of the Hungarian respondents visits restaurant more or less regularly, the European rate is 93 and the global is 95 percent. Among nineteen European countries the proportion of those who never ever eat in a restaurant is the highest in Hungary – 17 percent. More than half of the Hungarians eats once a month on occasion, 4 percent eats per day, or nearly every day in public places. 52 percent goes to restaurant for dinner, 46 percent for lunch. Half of the Hungarians used to eat with family members, one-third of them with a partner. More than half of the Hungarians prefers Hungarian cuisine. In Hungary the most popular foreign foods are Italian and Chinese. The frequency of eating away from home, reflects the local cultural habits. While in Asia the social contact is an important occasion for meals away from home, the European culture is focuses on the family table for meals. In Europe, the Greeks, Irish, Finns, Norwegians, Danes, Portuguese, Italians, Swiss and Finns goes to a restaurant the most frequently.
