Super Bowl brought in additional revenue this year due to increased food and beverage sales
In 2023, the most important event in the American sports economy, the final of the American football championship on Sunday, the Super Bowl, will bring in record revenues in 2023, moving billions of dollars in a single day.
According to preliminary expectations, the day of the 2023 match will bring 16.5 billion dollars (about HUF 6,000 billion) in additional revenue for the retail trade, mainly due to the increase in food and beverage sales. The match can generate 16 billion dollars (5,800 billion forints) in sports betting, while it is also one of the outstanding events of the year for the American advertising industry. Television advertising time in 2023 is $7 million (about HUF 2.5 billion) for 30 seconds, which is a record and exceeds last year’s price by $500,000 (HUF 182 million).
This year, the exclusive rights to broadcast the Super Bowl belong to the Fox channel, which accounts for approximately 600 million dollars (HUF 218 billion) in advertising revenue during the match alone. On Wednesday, the chairman and CEO of the Fox media company, Lachlan Murdoch, spoke about how they managed to sell every second. Last year, the NBC TV company broadcast the football final, which earned 578 million dollars (210 billion forints) from the match. Advertisers produce special commercials for the Super Bowl, featuring stars, which generates additional traffic on the other side of the advertising industry.
