Spar is building a new supermarket in Szentendre
Spar is building a new store in Szentendre with an investment of HUF 3.6 billion. The supermarket, whose foundation stone was laid on Tuesday, is expected to open in the first quarter of 2025.
At the event, Eszter Vitályos, the region’s Fidesz member of parliament and the parliamentary secretary of the Ministry of Culture and Innovation (KIM), said in his welcome speech: with Spar’s current investment, the amount that has come to Szentendre over the past years has already increased to over HUF 11.6 billion, of which more than HUF 8 billion was government development support. He explained that one of the important steps in the renovation of the Szentendre gate, the HÉV terminus and its surroundings is the development of the H5 HÉV line in Szentendre, which is in line with the government’s transport infrastructure development, which is still treated as a priority by the Ministry of Construction and Transport.
Mayor Zsolt Fülöp recalled that in April 2021, the Spar store at the HÉV terminus burned down. According to him, this disaster also created an opportunity, since the city management had long wanted to renovate the area around the HÉV station, built in the 1970s, and create a modern transport and commercial hub. He emphasized that he is confident that the laying of the foundation stone represents a new starting point in the life of the city, and that “with the joint cooperation of the municipality, the state, and private capital, Szentendre will truly be renewed.” Gabriella Heiszler, president and managing director of Spar Magyarország Kereskedelmi Kft., spoke in her welcome speech about how, according to the company’s development strategy, it spends significant resources every year on the renovation of its existing stores.
