Most popular biscuits: sweet and smooth
Sweet biscuits have become increasingly popular in recent years. Retail sales increased by 11 per cent in terms of value in the April 2007-March 2008 period, compared to the previous year. According to the Retail Index of Nielsen, annual sales have exceeded HUF 22 billion. Dry biscuits are now only the second most popular type, having been replaced by sweet biscuits in first place. These two segments account for 57 per cent of the market. Average consumer prices have risen in al segments. Private label products account for 40 per cent of total sales, mainly as a result of the wide assortments kept by discount stores. 68 per cent of total sales took place in larger than 400 square metre stores, which was 3 per more than in the preceding year.
