Shell Hungary survey reveals new trends in digital shopping
Smartphones have become an integral part of our daily lives, and the latest research by Shell Hungary highlights how these devices shape our shopping habits. According to the research, 87 percent of Hungarian adults have a smartphone, and almost all of them (93%) use applications that do not fall into the social media category. Among these, loyalty programs and discount applications are particularly popular.
According to the survey, the majority of Hungarian smartphone owners actively use applications that make their daily lives easier, whether it is financial management or online shopping. Loyalty programs and discount applications are particularly popular, which provide great help to users, for example, when buying food and fuel, or even when purchasing clothing.
Online shopping trends: What are discount applications most often used for?
According to the research, 59 percent of Hungarian smartphone owners use some kind of loyalty program, and the most popular of these are grocery store programs, which are used by 85 percent of users with a loyalty program. Another popular digital loyalty card is used when purchasing fuel, with almost half of customers (48%) using such options, while these applications also play a significant role when purchasing clothing (38%) and cosmetics (33%).
More than half of respondents use mobile applications for online shopping. They choose this option most often when purchasing clothing (59%), which is especially popular among the 30-39 age group and among women. Purchasing electronic products (46%) via application is most common among men. In addition, customers purchase electronic tickets (39%) and food and household goods (34%) via dedicated applications.
Sweepstakes and Special Offers: The Appeal of App Loyalty Programs
The research shows that many people choose an app specifically for the coupons and discounts. These apps offer a quick and easy way to save money, making them particularly attractive to conscious shoppers. Sweepstakes and personalized offers are the most popular features of app loyalty programs. According to the research, 57 percent of users regularly check for unique opportunities offered by apps. Such promotions not only increase customer engagement, but also encourage them to use the apps even more often. According to the survey, 68 percent of users would be willing to join additional loyalty programs if they offered them more personalized offers.
