Beyond the shelves: this is how Auchan helped communities in 2025
For Auchan Hungary, everyday shopping goes beyond the walls of the stores: it is connected to communities through responsible corporate operations and active social engagement. In 2025, it also paid special attention to helping those in need, supporting local communities and shaping a health-conscious attitude. Through its donation programs, food rescue initiatives and educational activities, it contributed widely to the creation of social value.
In 2025, Auchan spent more than 45 million forints on direct corporate donations. The grants primarily served the well-being of children, the preservation of physical and mental health, the provision of food to those in need and the promotion of healthy eating. The monetary donations were complemented by daily food rescue, community fundraising and educational programs.
Focus on local communities
Auchan has provided a separate donation budget for local communities in all 24 of its stores in Hungary, thus strengthening local networks. Thanks to this, 144 local civil society organizations and institutions received support in the framework of 169 events and campaigns, worth nearly 5 million forints.
Store fundraising campaigns involving customers
In 2025, Auchan stores gave space to several national and local fundraising campaigns, actively involving customers in providing assistance.
During the pet food collection at the beginning of the year, together with the Ant Community, nearly 20 tons of food were collected, which helped provide food for about 4,000 animals in 31 animal shelters. During the spring and before Christmas, during the non-perishable food collections organized jointly with the Hungarian Food Bank Association, more than 50 tons of donations were received, in the form of 12 thousand food packages.
During the start of school period, 110,500 pieces of school supplies were collected in cooperation with the National Association of Large Families, which made the start of the school year easier for 5,000 large families. The company supplemented this with a further 1 million forint donation.
Food rescue: daily responsibility
Thanks to Auchan’s daily humanitarian food rescue activities, 1,153 tons of still edible food reached those in need through its partner organizations, which corresponds to more than 1.1 million servings of food.
Highlighted programs: education and festive collaboration
The Smart Plate National Student Knowledge Test, implemented jointly with the National Association of Hungarian Dietitians, and supported by Auchan for the third time, served to shape a health-conscious attitude. The program involved 2,800 children, ages 6–7. 100,000 students participated, and the best ones competed in a national final.
During the Christmas period, the “Now you can do good with every Elf!” campaign created an opportunity for festive cooperation: with the cooperation of customers and Auchan, 25 million forints of support were collected for organizations helping children.
“We believe that the responsibility of a retail company does not end at the checkout. For Auchan, social responsibility is not a campaign, but part of our everyday operations: supporting communities, helping those in need and building a more sustainable future. We are proud that in 2025 we were able to provide tangible help throughout the country”
– highlighted Géza Vincze, Managing Director of Auchan Hungary.
Sustainability in everyday life
In addition to social responsibility, environmental sustainability also remained emphasized. The Greenweek sustainability activity was organized for the third time in 2025. All 19 Auchan hypermarkets joined the two-week initiative, and more than 380 sustainable products were in the spotlight. During the Passzold víszá, Tesó! used mobile phone collection campaign, 3,000 used small electronic devices were collected. The Green Personality Test sent out as part of the Plastic-Free July was completed by 1,600 people, and 200 sustainable products and 10,000 trust points were raffled off among the participants as the grand prize.
By 2025, all Auchan hypermarkets and logistics centers will have their own solar power plants. The investment, which affects all twenty Auchan locations, will generate around 20 GWh of green energy per year, which is equivalent to the entire annual electricity consumption of a medium-sized city with around 20,000 inhabitants – such as Várpalota, Paks or Dombóvár. The social and sustainability initiatives implemented by Auchan Hungary in 2025 reflect the company’s long-term goals: supporting communities, helping those in need and building a sustainable future.
