The market builds community
It is important to preserve our Hungarian culture in Hungary, and going to the market is also an integral part of Hungarian culture – declared Dr. Márton Nobilis, the State Secretary responsible for the food industry and trade policy of the Ministry of Agriculture, at the handover ceremony of the local market in Törökbálin on Friday.
The state secretary emphasized that the goal of the agricultural ministry is to promote the healthy diet of the population and favor the sale of local products. Already in 2012, the government took steps to stimulate local economies by introducing the concept of farmers’ markets and supporting the development of markets. The basic purpose of creating local farmers’ markets was to facilitate the delivery of food produced by small producers to consumers. Thanks to this, the number of farmers’ markets in Hungary has tripled in the past decade.
Dr. Márton Nobilis added that with the support of the short supply chain, people living in rural areas can access safe, high-quality, domestic food
At the markets, customers can verify the origin of the products they like, and producers can receive direct feedback on the results of their work. Hungary has an agricultural past, and we are working to ensure that it also has an agricultural future, he added. Sándor Elek, the mayor of Törökbálint, explained that HUF 88,232,000 in non-refundable support was won for the expansion and modernization of the market operating in the settlement. As part of the investment, water intake and electricity were built, the water block, the service storage rooms and the 117-space parking lot and bicycle storage area belonging to the market were completed.
