The Agricultural Marketing Center has timed its poultry meat campaign for the summer barbecue season
The summer barbecue season offers countless opportunities to prepare tasty, light dishes with various spices and marinades. Poultry is also a popular grill ingredient, and it can also be prepared quickly and easily. In addition to chicken, it is worth preparing turkey meat and even waterfowl in this way, as poultry is not only special, but also one of the most popular types of meat in a health-conscious diet. It is no wonder that the Ministry of Agriculture, the Agricultural Marketing Center and the Poultry Product Council have just launched their poultry meat consumption promotion campaign with the slogan “Anywhere, anytime, poultry”.
In the heat of summer, it is especially important to make sure that we eat easy-to-prepare and easy-to-digest foods. Poultry meets both criteria perfectly, so it has become a popular grill ingredient in recent years. Moreover, the domestic poultry sector is particularly diverse at the European level, practically every species and utilization type can be found in it. Poultry meat consumption is currently 40 kg/person/year on average. Poultry products from domestic production also meet the requirements of the strictest EU regulations worldwide, so consumers can have a varied, high-quality and safe choice. The change in consumer needs also shows that, in addition to raw products, pre-marinated products are becoming more and more popular, which enables simple and quick grilling, said Tamás Tarpataki, the Deputy State Secretary responsible for agricultural markets at the Ministry of Agriculture, at the press conference opening the campaign. He added: our level of self-sufficiency in poultry meat is about 160-180%, i.e. in addition to satisfying domestic consumption, we also have a significant export product.
Poultry meat has countless beneficial physiological effects
Not only is it a storehouse of important vitamins and minerals (such as vitamins A, B and D), but chicken meat is, for example, an excellent source of omega-3 fatty acids – emphasized Péter Ondré, managing director of the Agrármarketing Centrum, in his speech. The specialist said that since 2017, the organization has organized a consumption promotion campaign for the fifth time to promote poultry meat. – Poultry is an essential ingredient of Hungarian cuisine, and it is also an easily digestible, complete protein source that can easily be included in a health-conscious diet. The Agrármarketing Centrum stimulates the demand for poultry products with online appearances, a social media campaign and a prize draw. We will draw a grand prize among those who answer all questions correctly, the prize will be a gas grill and a package full of poultry products. In addition, another ten winners will receive a gift package. That’s why it’s worth completing the questions on jatek.amc.hu, Péter Ondré added.

The performance of the poultry sector has been extraordinary for years, as it supplies plenty for export in addition to the domestic supply. Among the export products, the most significant is waterfowl, eighty percent of which are sold on foreign markets, the specialist explained. It was said at the press conference: in 2022, we still consumed the largest amount of chicken meat, which is about 85% of all consumption, but extremely low-fat turkey meat (3 kg/person/year) and waterfowl consumption were also popular (2 kg/person/ year). The important position of the poultry sector is shown by the fact that since 2014 the World Poultry Day has been celebrated every May 10, which draws attention to the players of the poultry sector every year. The poultry consumption promotion campaign will be implemented this year with about HUF 50 million and will last until mid-August.
