In the summer pre-season, Austrian tourist traffic fell by almost three-quarters

In May and June, the summer pre-season, the turnover of the tourism sector in Austria fell by 70 percent, according to a survey by the Austrian economic research institute Wifo.

In these two months, the tourism sector had a turnover of 1.20 billion euros, with the number of registered guests falling by 74 percent and the number of guest nights by 70 percent.

The number of guest nights fell the most, in Vienna, by 93 percent. In Tyrol and Salzburg, the decrease was 74 and 73 percent. Carinthia saw the smallest decrease in the number of guest nights in the summer preseason, 54 percent.

The proportion of foreigners among guests decreased compared to last year. In May-June, 66 percent of guests were foreigners in 2019 and 41.5 percent this year. (MTI)
