New sampling rules apply from March
London-seated Gain and Feed Trade Association’s new sampling rules (GAFTA 124) are already in effect in the case of contracts signed after 1 March 2014. The first change in sampling rules affects two points: chapter 6.3.8 concerns toxins. If a trade contract specifies a limit value for toxins, the Quality Control Organisation must draw more samples from the examined item; chapter 6.3.9 concerns GMOs. If a trade contract includes a GMO guarantee, specific instructions must be given to the Quality Control Organisation to draw more samples from the examined item than the usual practice. The second change affects rule 130 on laboratory testing methods. In the case of raw protein if the customer didn’t specify the testing method, the laboratory is allowed to use the Kjeldahl and Dumas methods.
