Wolt Hungary, together with the Ministry of National Economy, has developed an action plan for the responsible and sustainable development of the local commerce industry

The company has been working intensively in recent months to develop a comprehensive action plan that affects several key areas of local commerce operations. During the process, Wolt closely cooperated with the relevant authorities (in particular the National Trade and Consumer Protection Authority) and took targeted measures to improve the services provided to domestic customers.

The action plan includes the following elements:

• tightening internal regulations for the delivery of alcoholic beverages and energy drinks;
• developing a digital age verification system;
• exploring joint solutions with government authorities to introduce appropriate tools to protect minors;
• reducing delivery fees in nearly 50 settlements in Hungary, by facilitating the wider availability of fast and affordable services beyond the capital;
• reviewing and transforming the user compensation framework in order to to remain fair, transparent and adaptable to the changing market environment, with a particular focus on protecting and supporting users.

In parallel with the development of the action plan, Wolt has had and continues to have constructive discussions with the relevant authorities, both in the areas of food safety and consumer protection. The company aims to strengthen ongoing dialogue and cooperation in order to ensure that the regulatory environment and market practices are in line with each other in the long term.

Wolt has been present in Hungary since 2018 and has since become a key player in the everyday lives of local communities by connecting customers with restaurants, shops and services operating in their surroundings. Through its platform, Wolt supports the development of digital commerce, creates flexible income opportunities, and contributes to the growth of local businesses and the spread of solutions for everyday convenience.

According to the Wolt 2025 Local Commerce Report, 38% of Hungarian restaurants and shops responding said that Wolt helped them develop their digital operations, while 27% would not have an online presence without the platform. 77% of merchant partners consider a presence on the Wolt platform important or very important for their business, and more than half (55%) say that the cooperation has increased their sales. After joining, 86% of partners experienced increased traffic or stable operations.

In addition to local business activities, Hungary also serves as an important international hub for Wolt: it is here that the shared customer support service operates, as well as certain areas of the global finance, HR and communications teams.

The local commerce sector in Hungary is also developing extremely dynamically. Wolt is convinced that as a leading player in the market, it has a responsibility to actively participate in the development of industry standards by sharing its professional knowledge and resources, and thus promote the creation of a more sustainable, transparent operating environment.

“When developing the action plan, we started from the assumption that rapid growth and responsible operation must go hand in hand. Our goal is to shape an industry environment that is predictable and safe for all stakeholders in the long term,” the company said.
