The German government opposes the relaxation of mask wearing rules
The federal government in Germany opposes the measure being considered by several provincial governments to withdraw the requirement to wear a mask in stores due to the coronavirus pandemic in order to improve the situation of the retail sector.
Angela Merkel said wearing a mask is an “important and still indispensable element” of pandemic control in all situations where a distance of at least one and a half meters from each other cannot be maintained at all times, the chancellor said in a statement from government spokesman Steffen Seibert in Berlin on Monday.
