The silent clerk
Innovations by Dunapack Papír és Csomagolóanyag Zrt. were presented at the conference held on 16. April. Shelf Ready Packaging (SRP) was the topic of the presentation held by the first presenter, András Palotai. This box is not simply a form of batch packaging, as it represents a standard comparable to that of primary packaging. SRP makes products more visible, while no compromise in terms of functionality is required. Manufacturers need to take the whole supply chain into consideration when designing this type of packaging, as palette sizes can make a big difference. Being able to squeeze another row of products into the truck is often a question of on or two millimetres. The next presenter, Katalin Kovács spoke about displays appearing on the shelves. 3 out of 4 shopping decisions are made inside stores. 80 per cent of products are stacked on shelves without an introductory advertising campaign, which means that shelves are the first place where consumers encounter these. Packaging is the silent clerk in stores who has to make contact with customers. She used the Twin box of Dunapack as an example SRP packaging. Its top is made from a hard and durable cardboard, while the bottom is made from white paper printed in colour. This is where the advertising surface is and it can also be used as a tray. Viktor Seenger spoke about the investment projects implemented by Dunapack recently. They have introduced a special software for achieving optimal size in the design process. They have also purchased new machinery for their Csepel plant. Imre Hopka , sales director told Trade Magazin at the end of the conference that they are spending over HUF 8000 million on equipment in the 2007-2009 period.
