Unsustainable beef can be replaced by ostrich and emu meat
Keeping emus and ostriches is a more environmentally friendly alternative to beef, as these birds do not produce methane gas. The breeding and consumption of these birds is currently not widespread in Hungary, but the demand may increase in the future, especially since they do not produce methane, which could be an environmentally friendly solution.
Ostrich and emu eggs can be healthier and tastier, contain less cholesterol, but have a high protein content. The texture of their meat is similar to red meat, but their taste can offer a completely new experience. There are already initiatives among emu and ostrich breeders for quality control and certification, and in the near future these birds may be a substitute for beef.
These birds can provide both eggs and meat, while the Nandus are not as common and their eggs cannot be easily sold.
