Fertilizer prices fell by almost 37 percent on average
Fertilizer distributors sold 789,000 tons of fertilizer directly to agricultural producers in the first half of 2024.
Although the volume sold was 38.7 percent higher, due to the 36.9 percent lower fertilizer prices on average, the net revenue from fertilizer sales in the first six months of 2024 (HUF 110 billion) was 22.1 percent lower compared to the same period in 2023.
The 10 largest fertilizer distribution companies sold 88 percent of the total amount of fertilizer directly to agricultural producers in the period under review
The nitrogen-phosphorus-potassium (NPK) active ingredient content of the fertilizer purchased by agricultural producers in the first half of 2024 was 246,000 tons, 69,000 tons (+38.8 percent) more than a year earlier. The phosphorous content increased by more than one and a half times. In the sold simple and compound fertilizers, the potassium active substance content exceeded the base period value by 46.8 percent and the nitrogen active substance content by 37.1 percent (Table 1, Figure 2). The ratio of NPK active ingredients was 87:7:6, while a year earlier it was 89:6:5, i.e. in 2024, the ratio of nitrogen active ingredient decreased by 2 percentage points, at the same time, the ratio of potassium and phosphorus increased by 1 to 1 percentage point.
