Everyone wins with quality!
The cake named “DCJ Exercise in Style” by László Balogh and Roland Kis from Gyula won Cake of Hungary this year. Our magazine interviewed László Balogh, the owner of the Kézműves Confectionery.

– In May 1983 I opened my first confectionery shop in Pilisszentiván. From the very beginning I have strived to use the best ingredients and make high-quality products.
– What other awards and recognitions do you have?
– There are many and from these I am really proud of the Pataki János Award that I received in 2025, but the greatest recognition – and the biggest impact on our work – was winning Cake of Hungary 2025.
– What extra did this award bring?
– Winning such a title is a source of great pride, but also a huge responsibility as more than 500 confectioners in Hungary make the cake.

– What is your opinion about confectionery trends?
– These can and should be included in the product selection and many confectioners do so. The most important thing is the quality of the ingredients used to make the product. At the same time, I must say that I don’t support the idea of Hungarian pastry shops offering only French desserts.
– What price are you willing to pay for a slice of cake?
– For instance our winning cake is available for HUF 1,950/slice and we have sold a lot of it. People are willing to pay a little more for real quality.
