The pre-tax profit of agricultural social enterprises increased by one and a half times in 2022
The pre-tax profit of agricultural cooperatives with double-entry bookkeeping increased by about one and a half times (!), from HUF 238.6 billion to HUF 355.4 billion in 2022. The significant (HUF 116.8 billion) increase in earnings is particularly remarkable in addition to the severe drought, and is also considered outstanding in the past five years.
However, the marked increase in income was classified as heterogeneous in terms of territorial distribution. The pre-tax profit increased the most in the Transdanubian regions less affected by the drought, including in the counties of Baranya and Győr-Moson-Sopron, to an outstanding extent of over HUF 15 billion. Overall, income increased in 17 counties, but the rate of growth exceeded inflation in only 15 counties.
The result also varied for individual plants
In the counties of Győr-Moson-Sopron and Baranya, which have the highest growth in absolute value, just over half of the farms increased their income, while 35.3 and 40.4 percent of the farms achieved less pre-tax profit in 2022 than a year earlier. Overall, it can be concluded that the year 2022, abounding in sales difficulties, weather anomalies and dynamic price increases, had both winners and losers, but at the same time, the economies that increased their income gained a larger surplus on average than the amount by which the pre-tax profit of the less successful enterprises in 2022 was reduced.
