Mercure is the International Brand of the Year at the European Franchise Association
Mercure Hotels & Resorts, a global brand renowned for its authentic and locally inspired guest experiences, has won the International Brand of the Year award at the 2025 European Franchise Awards by the European Franchise Federation (EFF).
Mercure’s dynamic international expansion was recognised in the hotel franchise sector category. Since its founding in 1973, Mercure has promoted a philosophy of cultural connections and regional authenticity, offering an authentic guest experience connected to its surroundings. The Mercure brand has the most extensive development plans in Accor’s portfolio today: it is currently developing more than 210 new hotels worldwide, thus reinforcing its commitment to locally inspired experiences through which guests can gain an insight into the true face of a given city or region.
Mercure is also actively present in the Hungarian market. These include, among others, the Mercure Budapest Korona, which has been completely renovated for its thirtieth birthday in 2020 and has more than four hundred rooms, the iconic downtown Mercure Budapest City Center, the Mercure Budapest Castle Hill located next to the Castle District, the two hotels in Eastern Hungary, Mercure Tokaj and Mercure Debrecen opened in 2022, and the Mercure Székesfehérvár Magyar Király, which has been operating since 2023.
The European Franchise Awards are judged by a jury of 18 national franchise associations, representing the winners of previous competitions. In addition to the International Brand of the Year award, the annual awards ceremony also presents awards in other categories, such as Franchisee of the Year, Franchise Owner of the Year, Emerging Franchise Brand and the Franchise Hall of Fame Award.
“The European Awards are a unique opportunity to bring the franchise community together to celebrate the best in the industry
– said Mathias Lehner, President of EFF.
We are honored to be able to evaluate their best concepts and personalities at such a meeting.”
“The award recognizes Mercure’s commitment to local culture. Our partners are at the heart of our success, with whom we continue to expand, offering new opportunities for travelers to discover the culture, flavors and atmosphere of the regions”
– added Vincent Moskovtchenko, VP Marketing for Europe and North Africa, Accor, responsible for mid-sized brands.
The European Franchise Association represents the entire continent – the event was attended by members from Germany, Finland, Spain, the United Kingdom, Belgium, the Netherlands, France, Croatia, Hungary, Sweden, Norway, Slovakia, Portugal, Italy, Greece, Serbia and North Macedonia. The Association supports the work of more than three million professionals working in franchises in some 500,000 hotels linked to more than 3,000 franchise concepts.
