Bears are dangerous predators…
… which makes their spectacular career even more surprising. The largest specimens weigh nearly 800 kilos, are very aggressive and smell very bad, but their PR is still better than that of squirrels. Unlike Medve cheese, real bears have no natural enemies. In the early years of the 20th century, Mr. Stauffer moved to Hungary from Switzerland and founded a cheese factory, choosing a bear – the symbol of Bern – as the trademark for this brand. When following the disappearance of the socialist system our Bear returned to the market, the illustration remained robust and realistic, especially as only one flavour existed. In the late 90’s, a number of flavours appeared, our Bear was somewhat reduced in size, but still remained a four legged beast. Finally, change came at the turn of the millennium, with our Bear becoming “my friend”, illustrated in a portrait. Medve has made serious progress in terms of brand, structure and flavour illustration. A dynamic red arc and a white frame were added to the logo, bringing the product nearer to the dairy sector in character. Graphic design has improved substantially, becoming clear and transparent. All graphic elements follow the line of the logo, emphasising everything that remains outside. Colour coding appears above the logo and the flavour as well. However, the Bear still remains far from perfect, but keeps smiling, and consumers keep loving him.
