Finalist cakes of the Cake of Hungary 2023 competition
The Hungarian Confectionery Industry Association announced the “Cake of Hungary” competition for the seventeenth time to celebrate our national holiday on August 20, the feast of St. Stephen, the founder of the state, and the symbolic birthday of Hungary. The competition is accompanied by huge interest, every year more and more people await the festive cake with increasing curiosity.
For the competition, the Ipartestület expects cakes based on the traditions of Hungarian confectionery, mainly based on Hungarian ingredients. This year, in addition to new, creative ideas, you could also enter with specialties that had already proven themselves in pastry shops and met this year’s competition.
The novelty of this year’s competition was that at least one of the following basket of ingredients, made up of national values and Hungarikums, had to be used for the named cakes:
• Újfehértó cluster cherry,
• ground paprika from Kalocsa,
• Tokaji aszu,
• Hungarian acacia honey,
• herbs (e.g. chamomile, lavender, mint, lemongrass, rosemary, or thyme)
