The scene of Hungarian beer production
Traditional brewing has a history of thousands of years, which is already part of the culture of humanity, said Dr. Beáta Olga Felkai, Deputy Secretary of State responsible for food chain supervision of the Ministry of Agriculture, at an event organized on the occasion of the 175th anniversary of the start of modern Hungarian beer production, in Budapest.
The deputy state secretary emphasized that beer production is an integral part of the food industry, where, in addition to tradition, continuous development is essential. He added that beer basically consists of a few ingredients, so it doesn’t look like a complicated product, yet there is an incredible amount of innovation in it, both at the product level and at the technology level.
This was needed for large-scale beer production
Dr. Beáta Olga Felkai explained that the conditions for modern beer production were created by the industrial revolution, when mechanization, railways, and logistics reached such a level that large-volume production could begin. He drew attention to the fact that the regulation of beer also plays an important role in the Hungarian Food Code, and that it is currently being amended, during which great emphasis is placed on innovation. For example, the category of fruit beers will be introduced in the future, new production technology descriptions will be introduced, but they will also deal with test methods. “I trust that there will be a regulation that will be favorable for everyone, that will further strengthen beer production and, due to the various technologies and opportunities, will further increase the desire to consume it”. – concluded the deputy state secretary.
