In the past period, the employment and sales revenue of the food industry also showed a significant increase, the latter exceeding HUF 6,500 billion. Dr. Felkai pointed out that the sector has a dual structure, as only 300-400 of the nearly 4,000 operating companies account for more than 90 percent of employment and exports.
The government helps to improve the competitiveness and sustainability of the sector through several support systems and tender opportunities. These subsidies play a particularly important role in the digitalization of industry and in the promotion of sustainability efforts, which can be the key to future development.
Dr. Beáta Olga Felkai also drew attention to the fact that the Covid-19 epidemic had a significant impact on the role of food chains. The rapid adaptation of the retail sector, the change in product selection and price sensitivity largely determined the dynamics of the market. Continuous monitoring of domestic and international market conditions is essential for the industry to be able to operate sustainably in the future.
In order to support the development of the food market, it is essential to continuously monitor market trends and consumer needs, so that appropriate support and development can be implemented. According to the deputy state secretary, the future of the food industry must be shaped along the lines of digitization and sustainability goals, which are also promoted by government subsidies.
