A professional consultation is needed on the future of the Hungarian goose sector, the opportunities and breaking points that will define this sector from 2023 to 2030 and along which all players in the sector can be successful must be discussed – pointed out Minister of Agriculture István Nagy at the XXIII. The minister said: the sector is facing serious challenges, one of the most serious problems is bird flu, which this year caused significant problems especially in the waterfowl sector. The importance of animal health in agriculture has increased, according to the statement, which is why the head of the ministry, Lajos Bognár, has asked the national chief veterinarian to focus all his efforts on this area, to keep in touch with the breeders, and to constantly assess where there may be risks. István Nagy pointed out that developments are extremely important in this sector as well. The Ministry of Agriculture continues to support poultry farmers. In the most recent site development applications, 67 applications from those engaged in goose farming have received support worth more than HUF 8.5 billion.

In the KAP Strategic Plan starting from 2023, priority support for animal husbandry will continue to be maintained, including support for the poultry sector

Regarding the creation of producer integrations, the minister stated that it is the breaking point of the goose sector. The creation of producer integrations is also important from the point of view of more effective advocacy. He emphasized that those agricultural sectors are successful in Hungary, in which the rate of integration is over 80 percent. He added that it is necessary to rethink under what conditions, with what technologies, what varieties, what hybrids the work should continue, what is the direction of development and how much money is needed; the Ministry of Agriculture will also help producers and the processing industry in this. István Nagy also spoke about the fact that the cooperation of breeders and their attention to each other, as well as respect for their work, is extremely important. Hungary has a strong position in goose breeding at the world level. The more they increase its prestige, the more they increase its value. The goal is for all players in the sector to be able to take one step forward, said the minister, according to the ministry’s announcement.
