Lidl has published its 3rd sustainability report
Lidl Hungary’s sustainability report for the 2022/2023 business years has been published. For the third time, the company is reporting on the results achieved by its measures to create a more sustainable future in line with its set goals. The discount chain has further strengthened its commitment to sustainability in the past two years and is continuously working to meet its commitments at the highest possible level.
The market-leading food retail chain in our country pays special attention to climate protection, builds on consistent environmental protection, and strives to reduce its environmental impact through its climate protection measures. As part of this, Lidl Hungary began the transformation of its fleet used for store delivery by putting 6 LNG and 4 electric trucks into service in 2023. In addition, the sustainability certification of its own stores also started in 2023. In addition, last year, the Let’s Save! food saving packages became available in all Lidl stores, in which the discount chain offers its customers discounted vegetables and fruits that are not perfectly edible, as well as sweet and savory baked goods left over from the previous day’s sales, which are still edible. Another new measure was that suppliers of Hungarian-traded private label products included in the permanent offer receive training on Lidl’s sustainability requirements.
“It is a milestone for us and we are proud to publish our third sustainability report. An important part of our commitment to sustainability is to communicate our goals and results in a transparent manner. We are working for a more livable future that is in harmony with the environment, contributes to more sustainable consumption, and focuses on employees, customers and business partners”
– said Judit Tőzsér, Head of Corporate Communications at Lidl Hungary.
The company’s operations affect the everyday lives of countless people, and it is responsible for them as an employer, partner and social actor, which is why it takes many measures that are good for people. Lidl Hungary introduced its Count on Us! program in 2023, within the framework of which its employees and relatives can use free and independent financial, legal and psychological advice. By continuously developing its offer, it tries to support its customers in making purchasing decisions that prioritize the promotion of sustainability. To this end, for example, as a pioneering step from January this year, the company began reducing the price of vegan foods under its own brand Vemondo, thus offering them at the same favorable price as their animal-based counterparts.
