Restaurants suffer a lot because of the lack of foreign tourism
According to online cash register data, in the first ten days of June, the revenue of restaurants was 35.8% lower than in the same period of the previous year. Prior to that, the revenue of hospitality in Hungary fell by half in March and by a quarter in April. In May, according to online cash register data, the rate of decline slowed down somewhat, with markets clinging to half of the March level, but the settlement of hospitality still looks bumpy.
It is part of the antecedents that from March 17 the restaurants were in a difficult situation due to the coronavirus epidemic, as from then on the dear guest could only sit in for 15 hours for a snack or a drink, after that it was only possible to take them away until 6 am. From March 28, however, that was not all that was left, as the guest could not even visit the restaurant before 3 pm so that he could eat and drink something on the spot. Removal and delivery to the house remained. And the closure.
The foreign guest has paid a lot, so far he has brought a quarter of the revenue from the restaurant cashiers
One of the attractions of cross-border travel is to relax and watch the delicious food in the restaurants. Travelers can choose to have a good snack at the on-site restaurant or elsewhere. Many restaurants in key tourist destinations are building their business plans on foreign guests who are already more money-making, all over the world. We are no exception and these are the best restaurants.
According to statistics, the hospitality of foreigners brings a lot to the cuisine of Hungarian restaurants in terms of finances. In the last two years, their consumption accounted for 25-26% of total hospitality revenue, and this was the case even in early 2020, in the pre-epidemic period.
This was followed by the already mentioned downfall in the market menu line, similarly to other service areas. Climbing out of the pit promises to be slow, the dear guest, whether Hungarian or foreign, is very careful. Especially the latter.
Nowadays, it is not long to meet foreign guests in restaurants, so if we do not count them, we can see that the majority of Hungarian guests returned to their usual place at the beginning of June, as the decline is only around 10%. But then the 25% is very much missing, which of course is just an average, fluctuating during the year and by region.
