The average yields of corn and winter apples also doubled
Based on the data of the operational reports for the subject date of October 8, 97.7 percent of the sunflower sowing area has already been harvested, so far a total of 2 million tons of sunflowers have been harvested from 661.3 thousand hectares. The national average yield increased compared to the previous year’s level, to 2.9 tons/hectare. The lowest yield average was reported from the counties of Baranya and Csongrád-Csanád (2.5 tons/hectare), the highest from the county of Tolna (3.5 tons/hectare).
The domestic production area of corn in 2023 is 746.3 thousand hectares, of which 327.2 thousand hectares, 43.8 percent of the total area, were harvested by October 8. Compared to the base year, the average yield increased to a large extent (more than twice), it was around 7.4 tons per hectare. Producers achieved the lowest yield average in Csongrád-Csanád County (5 tons/hectare), the highest in Vas County (9.8 tons/hectare), and the variance between the counties was significant.
Among the fruits harvested in the fall, the picking of grapes and plums showed the highest degree of readiness, standing at 85 and 97 percent on October 8, 2023
The average plum yield was nearly 7.8 tons per hectare, 8.3 percent less than in 2022. The harvest of winter apples, the fruit grown in the largest volume, stood at 64.9 percent on the day of the report, and the average yield (21.6 tons/hectare) more than doubled the amount of the previous year. It produced nearly 10 tons of pears per hectare, 9.7 percent more than in 2022.
