The government also protects agriculture by requiring import notification
Agriculture is affected both by the war and Brussels’ pro-war policy. For this very reason, in addition to the ban on the import of Ukrainian agricultural products, the government is helping agriculture with another measure affecting imports. In order to strengthen the transparency of market processes and follow-up, a preliminary notification obligation came into effect on Tuesday for agricultural products intended to be imported into Hungary from any country.
Supporting agriculture and preserving its competitiveness is extremely important in the current war situation, when the pro-war policy of Brussels causes challenges in agriculture as well. For this very reason, the government also protects agriculture by requiring the notification of imports. Thanks to the provision of data to the National Food Chain Safety Authority (Nébih), information on the circulation of goods is available to the Hungarian authorities even before the deliveries. The reporting obligation applies to the same range of products that are subject to an import ban from Ukraine, including cereals and oilseeds, vegetable oils, flour, eggs and meat.
There is no need to declare products imported for personal use, as well as items transported through Hungary
The notification must be made on the electronic form available on the website of the NÉBIH, no later than 24 hours before the import, and in the case of air or water import no later than 6 hours before the import. The notifier will receive an immediate confirmation to the email address provided in the notification. The confirmation document must accompany the goods entered in printed form. Failure to report will result in a fine.
