The government will provide more than 20 billion forints for the development of aquaculture until 2027
Domestic aquaculture plays a key role in supplying healthy and high-quality fish to fishing waters, which is why the government is providing more than 20 billion forints of funding for the sector through the Hungarian Fisheries Operational Program Plus (MAHOP Plus) until 2027, said István Nagy, Minister of Agriculture, at a press conference in Budapest on Monday.
At the presentation of the annual public service performance report of the Hungarian National Fishing Association (MOHOSZ), the Minister said:
Through the tenders, MOHOSZ can receive support at 100 percent intensity for tasks such as developing, creating and restoring the habitat and spawning grounds of native fish stocks, or reducing the introduction of alien fish species.
According to him, a total of 4,879 tons of fish were caught in the registered 160,000 hectares of fish farming water area and 26,000 hectares of fish ponds last year, of which the fishing catch amounted to 4,614 tons, which is a 2.8 percent increase compared to the previous year.
Last year, the amount of stocking reached 4,071 tons, and the total value of the fish stocked was 6.7 billion forints.
