KMÉ trademark: conscious shopping, perfect quality
The High Quality Food (KMÉ) trademark is a label attesting to special value: only top quality Hungarian products, certified by independent expert testing can be granted the KMÉ label. The High Quality Food (KMÉ) label is currently one of the highest level quality recognitions for food in Hungary.
It is the only national quality scheme recognised by the European Union and its credibility* is based on a complex evaluation system, relying on the expertise of the National Food Chain Safety Office (Nébih). In Hungary the conditions for being granted the KMÉ label are stricter than those laid down in national and EU legislation.
Which products can be awarded the KMÉ label?
All foodstuffs for which a product specification, also known as Specific Certification Criteria (SCC), has already been prepared are eligible to apply for the KMÉ trademark. Currently 61 product types in 15 product categories are open for application.
The KMÉ certification label guarantees the high quality and reliability of domestic foodstuffs and keeps the entire production process under constant, stricter than usual control. Sales by some of our partners have tripled after they were awarded the KMÉ trademark. There are currently 150 products that bear the KMÉ logo.
Can we expect to see more KMÉ products on store shelves?
Brand owners can apply for trademarks on an ongoing basis, based on the product descriptions that have been prepared. The selection of product groups that can apply is regularly expanded.
How long can a product bear the KMÉ trademark?
After a successful certification procedure a 3-year trademark use contract is signed with the applicants, but by submitting a renewal application label use can be extended for another 3 years – as long as the applicant wishes and is able to meet the certification criteria. The quality of products with the KMÉ label is regularly monitored by auditors after certification, guaranteeing long-term, consistent quality.
How does the KMÉ trademark support the development of the domestic food industry?
By highlighting high-quality domestic food products on store shelves, the KMÉ trademark increases the market share of Hungarian products. It also encourages food industry operators committed to quality to continuously improve product quality.
Why should food producers apply for the High Quality Food label?
The KMÉ trademark is an opportunity for producers and distributors to credibly highlight their products of proven excellence. It improves the marketability of groceries and increases customer loyalty. Plus the KMÉ label brings extra points in many national and EU tenders. (x)
