KitKat also supports the well-being of cocoa-growing families
Nestlé has introduced the first KitKat that uses cocoa beans grown by farmer families participating in the company’s income-raising program during production. The goal of the chocolate brand is to draw attention to the sustainability of the cocoa used in the iconic product.
Launched in 2022, the innovative Income Accelerator program aims to help cocoa-producing families increase their incomes, reduce the risk of child labour, while also seeking to promote better agricultural practices, eliminate gender inequality and support children’s schooling.
Nestlé has so far involved 10,000 cocoa farming families in the Ivory Coast and plans to expand the initiative even further in the future, first in Ivory Coast and then in Ghana. The goal is that by 2030, all of the approximately 160,000 cocoa-growing families involved in Nestlé’s global cocoa supply chain will participate in the initiative.
