K&H became Hungary’s best sustainable bank in 2025 again
K&H Group has won Euromoney’s “Best Sustainable Bank in Hungary” award for the second time, recognizing the bank’s commitment to sustainability. This award demonstrates that K&H treats sustainability as an integral part of its business model, which is most reflected in significant green financing volumes, ESG investment solutions and innovative solutions that help clients transition to sustainable business operations.
According to Euromoney’s assessment, K&H stands out in the Hungarian banking market primarily because it increased its green loan portfolio to more than EUR 1 billion, achieving a share of more than 20 percent in both the retail and corporate green loan markets. The financial institution plays a leading role in financing renewable energy and green real estate projects, and has also introduced unique customer solutions such as the residential energy efficiency calculator or the agricultural greenhouse gas calculator, which simultaneously help households and companies to develop sustainable operations.
Another determining factor in the award was that the assets managed in K&H’s responsible investment funds exceeded HUF 1 trillion by 2024, and it has a market-leading share of over 50 percent in funds following sustainability goals (SFDR 8 and 9 classification) in Hungary. In addition, the banking group reduced its own emissions by 74 percent by 2024 compared to the 2015 base, uses 100 percent green electricity in its entire operation, and further increased its hybrid fleet, which now consists of 430 cars. It monitors the reduction of its carbon footprint not only in its own operations but also in its lending portfolio and reports publicly on it annually, which is a rarity on the Hungarian market.
“Sustainability is an integral part of K&H’s business model. Winning this award for the second time confirms that we are making real progress in Hungary in areas such as green lending, supporting energy efficiency and responsible investments. As a leading bank and insurer, our goal is to gradually achieve the transition to a sustainable economy in cooperation with our customers and partners,”
– said Peter Roebben, CEO of K&H Group.
September is traditionally the month of sustainability at K&H, during which not only environmental but also social responsibility is in focus. In 2024, the bank supported the SOS Children’s Village Life Start Fund with 10 million forints, which helps young people leaving the foster care system to find work, further education and housing. K&H’s “Life-long” program develops the financial awareness, digital skills and mental well-being of young people receiving child protection services so that they can enter adult life prepared and responsible. During the month, numerous volunteer programs, educational events and customer communications are also taking place, the aim of which is to raise sustainability to an everyday level – whether it is financial decisions, community participation, self-care or environmental awareness.
In a joint program, K&H, WWF Hungary and the Duna-Dráva National Park planted thousands of native trees and shrubs in the Cece region, so that not only habitats could be renewed, but the bank’s climate protection role also became tangible.
