Almost three-quarters of K&H’s energy consumption now comes from renewable sources, and 100 percent of its electricity consumption is covered by green electricity, according to the bank’s latest sustainability data. K&H aims to make its operations completely carbon neutral, and to this end, it is implementing a continuous transition not only in energy supply, but also in the operation of its branches, vehicle fleet and data centers.

Every third bank branch is now green

A third of the branches in K&H’s national network already operate as green branches, which means that their direct carbon dioxide emissions are zero. Selective waste collection is carried out in 29 branches.

The bank converts 15 new branches to be completely carbon neutral every year, thus the number of units whose energy supply is based exclusively on renewable sources increases year by year. Energy efficiency improvements in data centers and modernization of thermal control systems also contribute to reducing the overall operational footprint

Reducing emissions, conscious energy use

K&H reduced its carbon dioxide emissions by 73.5 percent compared to the base year 2015, which is an outstanding achievement in the domestic financial sector. The banking group’s water consumption also decreased by two-thirds during the same period. In terms of gas consumption in buildings, it achieved 2,837 MWh less energy consumption, which corresponds to the annual heat energy demand of several thousand households.

The savings are based on a multi-year energy efficiency program, the modernization of heating and lighting systems, and the prioritization of digital operations.

car fleet: 70 percent hybrid, before full electric transition
70 percent of the bank’s car fleet – 430 vehicles – is currently hybrid-powered, and it plans to gradually develop a full electric fleet in the coming years.

Fleet electrification not only serves to reduce direct emissions, but also strengthens the exemplary operation of K&H’s mobility services (car and equipment leasing, e-charging network financing).

“At K&H, renewable energy is not only an environmental aspect, but also a business one: conscious energy use also strengthens operational efficiency and cost stability. Our goal is for our entire energy consumption to come from 100 percent renewable sources in the short term,”

– said Levente Suba, K&H’s Head of Sustainability.
