Due to the tightening of EFO regulations in July, companies are even more open to employing students

The summer season is approaching, and the student job market is already in full swing: the most popular student jobs are filled within days, while companies are also showing increasing interest in student employment due to the tightening EFO regulations. According to the latest data from the Mind-Diák Szövetkezet, the average gross hourly wage in the 2025 season is around 2,000 forints, but hourly wages exceeding 3,000 forints are also available in the best-paying – typically internship – positions.

These student jobs are in store for the summer

In the 2025 summer season, trade, tourism and hospitality continue to be the most popular areas of student work, where young people can easily perform their tasks without prior training or experience. As the summer months approach, there are more and more student job opportunities around Lake Balaton: here, student jobs are mostly offered on beaches and in various catering establishments, and in many cases, accommodation is also provided for young people. The most popular summer jobs continue to be ice cream and bar counters, fast food assistants, cashiers, merchandisers or promoters. In addition, with the start of the holiday season, hotels, adventure baths, beaches, event venues and festivals are also looking for student workers in increasing numbers – there are many opportunities for young people as receptionists, breakfast servers, hostesses or animators.

Summer student, intern during the year – this is how students work all year round

In the 2025 summer season, the average hourly wage for student work will be between 1,700 and 2,500 HUF gross. The minimum continues to be adjusted to the current minimum hourly wage: this is 1,672 HUF gross, and in the case of jobs requiring secondary education or a high school diploma, it is 2,005 HUF/hour. However, students can earn a multiple of this, for example, if they have a driving license, special skills or language skills.

Internship positions continue to be among the best-paying opportunities: young people under 25 can expect a gross hourly wage of between 2,005 and 2,500 HUF in these jobs, which, thanks to the exemption from personal income tax, is considered entirely net income. Within this, hourly wages of 2,000–3,000 HUF are typical in the engineering and financial fields, while wages of 3,000–4,000 HUF or more are not uncommon in the IT sector, especially in the case of specialized project tasks. In contrast, students working in light physical or administrative jobs can generally expect an hourly wage of between 1,700 and 1,900 forints.
