Japanese women give chocolate on Valentine’s Day
Giving chocolate or other occasional sweets on Valentine’s Day is considered to be a romantic gesture around the world. In most cultures it is common that men give gifts to women, but in Japan the opposite is true – origo wrote, after BBC.
In Japan women typically give chocolate or other sweets to their couple, but not only to them, but also to their direct male colleagues. While the former has a romantic meaning, there is no emotion associated with the strange habit of the latter. (origo)
