Snow saved wheat bread from frost
The hard cold did not do significant damages to the wheat bread, sowed last autumn. The plant now shows a hopeful development – told Matula Árpád, horticulture supervisor of the Bács-Kiskun County Government Office to MTI.
Matula Árpád told that snow was life-saving for the winter wheat sown in the county on 72 thousand hectares. The seed were sown last year in the middle of a dry season.
Although the situation improved with the winter rainfalls, the extreme cold in February would probably affected the yield badly, but the 40 centimeters of snow gave enough warmth. (MTI)
