The 4th Lake Tisza PET Cup starts this weekend
The 4th PET Cup on Lake Tisza starts this weekend: during the environmental protection program this year, between June 17 and 20, the wildlife will be cleaned from Tiszafüred to Tiszanána-Dinnyéshát, 12 boats and canoes floating on pill bottles will clean the designated section of the lake – announced Naturesfilm.hu Association, organizer of the PET Cup with MTI on Thursday.
Last June, the lake was freed from nearly 7 tons, 1,500 bags of waste. Fortunately, thanks to the regular competitions and waste collection programs during the year, some of the reed beds and floodplain forests are now clean, but with the recent floods, some areas have become polluted again.
During its ten years of operation, the Tisza PET Cup has freed Hungarian rivers from 317 tons of waste. It is an achievement to be recognized even in international comparison, since in a decade, practically more than twice as much waste was collected as the organization known for its ocean garbage collection, Ocean CleanUp – they wrote.
Almost 60 percent of the waste collected from Lake Tisza and sorted into 14 different fractions is recycled.
