Heineken will close one of its factories in Romania in 2023
Heineken will close its Constanta brewery next year, reducing the number of its plants in Romania to three, the manufacturer announced on Tuesday.

The Black Sea coast plant will close in a year
According to the announcement, only the Black Sea coast plant, which has been operating well below capacity for years, is expected to be operated until September 2023. According to the manufacturer’s rationale, the move aims to make its operations more efficient for the sake of long-term sustainability of its growth and new developments. Part of the capacity of the Constanta plant will be redirected to the three other factories that operate in Csíkszereda, Nyárádtő (Ungheni) near Marosvásárhely and Craiova in southern Romania. Heineken’s portfolio includes Csíki (Ciuc), Harghita, Neumarkt, Golden Brau, Silva and Bucegi local brands, among others.
The company employs more than 1,100 workers in its four plants in Romania. Last year, Heineken Romania’s sales revenue was 1.3 billion lei (1 Romanian lei 80.89 HUF), its profit after tax reached 118.8 million lei. Heineken produces more than 300 brands of beer in the world, is present in more than 70 countries and has 80,000 employees.
